English A - High Level

I think that this class surprised me in the best way possible. Prior to taking this class, I thought English A was going to be a lot of essay writing, and old novel readings. However, I couldn't have been more wrong. Throughout the program, we dived into various different subjects,  from Nike campaigns, to graphic novels, to weird yet intriguing writings. All of the classes were rooted in discussions and active commentary, which made English A dynamic and enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed all the writing activities where I was pushed to question my own opinions, and express myself like I had never done before. One of my favorite activities in class were class discussions. It was very interesting listening to other people's point of views, why they think the author did something, and how it all connects to the subject we are looking into. While writing this, Iwas trying to think of my favorite memory in English A, but I couldn't pick just one. I have the best memories from this class, I loved it.

Amish Tourism

One of my favorite projects ever, was Amish Tourism. We were currently reading the novel of The Handmaid's Tale, and were assigned a project where every team in the class had a different topic. We were supposed to do a presentation, while also connecting it to the book. Not only was I able to further deepen on my understanding of the book, but I am now obsessed with the Amish. It's in my bucket list to go and visit the Amish with Ali and my English A class.

Persepolis Book Review

After reading our first graphic novel, Persepolis, we were paired up in teams and assigned a book review project. My team and I, also known as Reggina Q, decided to do a radio station layout, and talked about the things that stood out to us in the novel, and the importance of the story itself. This was actually the first project we did while in quarantine, and it seemed weird doing everything online. Reggina and I still laugh about this project to this day, it was one of my favorites.

Whitman Poetry Project

As i've mentioned before, we covered a broad amount of topics in English A, one of those being poetry. Instead of looking into the classics like Shakespeare, we looked into the poems that challenged our way of thinking; this is when we came across Whitman. For our final poetry project, we were assigned to choose our favorite Whitman poem, and translate it with an artistic medium of our choice. I opted to use what I never do, which is painting. It was interesting to see what I took from the poem reflected into a painting of my own, which is also one of the reasons why I love this class so much. It isn't a conventional class, rather one that pushed me to think outside the box.
